Welcome to the Canadian Women and Words Foundation! We exist to celebrate and promote outstanding plays and to acknowledge the remarkable ability of writers to create community through telling stories.
We believe in helping self-identifying women have greater reach and profile for their voices in the public sphere.
New voices launch new conversations, which help expand our horizons, and makes for an exciting night at the theatre.
The Canadian Women and Words Foundation hosts the annual Bluestocking Prize; a cash award given to a self-identifying Canadian woman playwright in recognition of a script of outstanding quality.
The Bluestocking Prize:
• Ensures applicants plays are read by a jury comprised solely of artistic directors.
• Supports artistic directors in their desire to have gender balance on stage by creating the space to read entries and engage in discussions about the work with colleagues.
• Celebrate women’s ability to create community by sharing the cash prize with a Canadian charity of their choice.
Our official launch is September 2018. The amount of the inaugural prize to be announced when fundraising concludes. Stay tuned here for more details and application forms. Until then if you’re interested in getting involved, or making a donation, contact our executive director at: firstname.lastname@example.org
